"Boys Keep Swinging" is, to me, a very subtle song about male privilege (and yeah, even though there’s some queer references in it, he still makes it clear that the song is about male privilege).
It’s interesting because to a less astute listener, the song might sound like an ironic celebration of the male youth experience, rather than a commentary on gender disparity. It could have been misappropriated by sr8 white boys, but he chose to dress in drag for the promotional video, alienating the heterosexual male audience that otherwise may have claimed the lyrics for themselves unironically.
